„Too much love will kill you“ ist nicht nur der Name eines bereits 1988 aufgeführten aber erst 1992 veröffentlichten Queen Stückes sondern auch der programmatische Titel der Arbeit von Kerstin Bennier, die sich in ihrem Werk zum einen mit den prekären Arbeitsverhältnissen unserer Zeit als auch mit dem Stellenwert der Kunst als Mittel einer narzisstischen Selbstwertregulation befasst.

Was passiert mit einer Person, wenn ein Ungleichgewicht zwischen beruflichem Engagement und dem Gegenwert erhaltener Belohnung entsteht? Dysfunktion die in Form von Vulnerabilität erscheint gilt mitunter auch als Wegweiser in den miteinander kommunizierenden Bildern der Arbeit Benniers. Verschüttet nach einer Invasion der Herzen zeigen sich die Umrisse eines Körpers, der nicht mehr zu atmen scheint. Gezogen und gezerrt wird der Körper, in alle Richtungen gedehnt bis er endgültig auseinanderklafft.

Die Künstlerin selbst spricht von einem Zuviel, das sich bedrohlich in alle Lebensbereiche ausbreitet und am Ende das Leben kostet. Was genau „too much“ ist zeigt sich gesellschaftlich in unterschiedlichsten Gestalten. Die Angst vor dem Fremden, der Überflutung, dem Verlust scheinen maßgeblich beteiligt an der neuen Ordnung und der damit verbundenen Heimatliebe.

“Too much love wants to kill you” is not only the name of a Queen composition already published in 1988 but not released until 1992, but also the programmatic title of the work of Kerstin Bennier, which deals with the precarious working conditions of our time as well as with the significance of art as a means of narcissistic self-value regulation.

What happens to a person when an imbalance arises between professional commitment and the value of the reward received? Dysfunction, which appears in the form of vulnerability, is also sometimes seen as a signpost in Bennier’s communicating images. Buried after an invasion of hearts, the contours of a body that no longer seems to breathe are revealed. The body is pulled and pulled, stretched in all directions until it finally gapes apart.

The artist herself speaks of an excess that spreads threateningly into all areas of life and in the end costs life. What exactly is „too much“ can be seen socially in a wide variety of forms. The fear of the foreign, the flooding, the loss seems to be decisively involved in the new order and the associated love of the homeland.
